What to Do If ICE Comes

If at Home

Do not open the door unless ICE has a judge-signed warrant. Ask them to show it under the door. Stay silent – you don’t have to answer questions. Do not sign anything without a lawyer. Record and take notes if possible. Call a lawyer or legal aid group.

If Stopped in Public

Ask if you’re free to go – if yes, walk away. Do not run – stay calm. Stay silent – you don’t have to answer questions. Refuse a search by saying, "I do not consent." Ask for a lawyer if detained.

If at Work

Do not run. Stay calm. Ask for a warrant – ICE needs a judge-signed warrant for non-public areas. Remain silent – you don’t have to discuss your status.

Be Prepared

Memorize important numbers. Have a family plan and legal documents ready. Keep copies of key papers in a safe place.
